Dali Atomicus- Philippe Halsman 1948 |
What drew me to this photo was Salvador Dali, I recognized him and his mustache instantly. Salvador Dali is one of my favorite painters of all time (after Frida Kahlo, obviously). Halsman believed that to truly capture a persons portrait you had to capture themselves and an aspect of them. He and Dali worked often together with Dali doing more and more crazy ideas and pushing the limits of photography at the time. The photo took 26 tries, each time cleaning off the floor and drying the cats to get the next take.
