On March 5th, Andres Chairez was announced to be Student of the Month here at Bowie High School. Chairez was awarded student of the month for all his hard work in school and the surrounding community.
Student of the Month is a long-standing tradition at Bowie, and the students that earn it are hard working individuals that are outstanding in both academics and citizenship.
Chairez has been working hard all year, and his efforts did not go unnoticed by his teachers and fellow classmates.
"He (Chairez) has been working very diligently in class all year, and he has always given his best efforts in my class. It was no surprise to me that he won Student of the Month," said freshmen english teacher, Mrs. Samson.
Students that are recognized this way are hard workers and deserve to be given recognition for their outstanding achievements.
"I put in the work and effort that needed to be put in, and I focused really hard on my school work." Student of the month has been a tradition at Bowie since 2002, and it is considered an honor to be
named it. Being student of the month means a lot of different things to Chairez, but mostly it means
that he gets to set an example for the rest of the student body.
"It means that I am getting recognized for all the hard work that I put into school and being a model student at Bowie." Chairez said.
Not only is student of the month and honor for the student, but it also means a great deal to Bowie and its staff.
"It means that the school gets to recognize all of the hard work that the student body puts in, and
honor the few students who really go above and beyond."
Often times students that are given this title plan on doing work around the school to help improve
their school community.
"I plan on joining a bunch or clubs and getting to know my fellow students better." Chairez said.
A teacher who was a past student of the month, Mr. John Walkson, worked on the school gardens to help beautify the school when he was here.
"I was elected student of the month in 2002, my junior year here at Bowie, and I decided to work on the gardens surrounding the flag pole to beautify the entrance to the school. I got a couple of my
friends together and we worked on it together, it was a fun experience for all of us." said Walkson
The Student of the Month represents Bowie, and all that Bowie stands for, such as hard work,
good morals, determination, and compassion for other students and the community that surrounds
Bowie.
"Bowie is a good school with good students and a competitive atmosphere, and I am proud to
represent that and all that Bowie is." Chairez said.
