American Soilder

The most powerful picture in my opinion was the one were he is with his mother and his girlfriend and they are all holding hands and walking. It gives this sense of finality with his story. He has done his time and he has became the man that he knew that he could be. Even though at some times it was challenging.

The images work to tell the story of growth, both physically and mentally. You can see him go from this shrimpy kid to this buff and strong looking man that he is today. You also see him evolve mentally through his actions in the photos. His expressions throughout the whole journey really give away to what he is thinking.

The captions work to enhance the story be providing us with what is going on in the photo. They also provide us with background information and helpful quotes that help us truly understand and get the meaning of the photo and its significance.

Fisher was a kid who decided that he would carry on his dads legacy and enlist in the army. He had struggles with drug and alcohol abuse and wanted a fresh start in the army. Through many hardships in basic training and in Iraq he was forged into a solider and a better man.

The verbs are usually written in present tense for the first sentence in photos with Ian in it, then the author goes into more detail in the second sentence with past tense verbs.

The captions have 3 sentences on average. The first sentence is usually about what is happening in the photo, then the second sentence is elaborating on what led up to that event happening. The third sentence provides us with a quote that is important to what is happening in the photo. In the captions that I saw none of them had four sentences.

A picture tells a thousand words and in a photo you can capture all the emotion and expressions on a persons face. Then the captions elaborate on the photos and what lead to the expressions and emotions that you see.

Adding a story to your pictures makes them more whole. You need that extra bit of information that you just can't get with a few pictures. A caption can only provide you with two sentences of information.
