Magazine Tips-
When I make my own news stand cover I am going to be looking to make something that creates curiosity, something thats easy to scan over and get information from, and something that makes the reader feel like they aren't wasting their time by reading it. I also want to create something that is emotionally irresistible to someone, and makes the reader want to spend their money on it.

Favorite
With this cover I feel like they could have made her face more recognizable, and a little bit less airbrushed, although this is a beautiful image I would have liked for it to have a more textured feel instead of her looking plastic. I cant really read the tiny little print to the side and I think this would have been a better cover if it made it easier to read and get to the point, not look like little gray lines off to the side.
Whats communicated about people through this photo is the way we find beauty in nature and through a minimalistic look, like how she might have this large head dress on but her makeup looks minimal and simple enough to look more raw.
Cover Types-
- image based
Most common type of cover. This usually consists of one or few people looking at the camera and smiling. It is seen mostly on mens and women's apparel magazines, gossip magazines, fashion magazines, and celebrity mags.
- concept based
Concept based photos can be mixed of all three types of covers, and are used to portray something shocking, serious, or even funny.
- type based
Rare, and usually meant to convey something shocking or striking. The words that the cover has can sometimes portray the point better than a picture can.
- illustration based
Pretty uncommon, but it was the only way to produce the cover before the mid 1930's. The illustration technique is used to convey something funny or something out of the ordinary.
