Emmett Till- David Jackson 1955 |
What drew me to this photo was the emotions on the parents face, they seemed so empty and sad. Emmett Till was a 14 year old boy who talked to a white woman in a store. The husband of that white woman then went to Tills house, kidnapped him, then brutally beat him and tied barbed wire around his neck and attached a 75 pound fan to him and dumped him in a river. This photo became a civil rights movement that brought to life the horrors that racism and segregation had in this country. Emmett mom decided that her son would not die in vain and demanded that his funeral be an open casket, so that everyone could see the brutality a 14 year old boy faced.
David Jackson sr.- David Jackson 1956 (there are so many David Jacksons I couldn't find specific info on the one who took the photo) |
