Self Portrait vs Selfie

A selfie is unplanned, taken by a phone or a mobile device, and is a simple picture of yourself, usually with no intent to expose some deep aspect of you or your personality.
A self-portrait usually has some thought put into it, such as; lighting, placement, props, and pose. a self portrait is typically taken by a professional camera, but can use a phone or digital camera and get similar results.
There is a distinct difference to me when it comes to self portraits and selfies, and that is planning and composition. Personally, I don't typically plan selfies, they are things that I take while I am in the car or just woke up, and I don't put a lot of thought or effort into them. When we were doing our self portrait project a while back, I sat down and put a lot of thought into what effect I wanted to give off, what I was going to be wearing, what I was going to do with my makeup, what position I was going to be in, and then just camera settings in general.
I really like taking self portraits, to me they have a whole lot more craftsmanship and feel a little more formal.
Self portraits are more valuable to me because they can say a lot about you. They also take a lot more time to do and work on, so the effort that  you put into them makes them more valuable.
